Apple Pie Filling
6 to 7 apples (Rome or Cortland), peeled, cored, and sliced 3/4 to 1 cup sugar (can use 1/2 cup white, 1/2 cup brown if desired) 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg Dash salt 2 tablespoons butter
Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix with sliced apples. Fill pastry and dot with butter. Roll out top crust and place on top of filled pie. Bake in hot oven (400 °F) for 55 to 60 minutes, until apples are done and juice is bubbling through top crust. Serve warm with ice cream.
